VeriSource uses a "Physics-First" approach to verification. Unlike AI detectors that
look for pixels, we check if the scene obeys the laws of physics at the alleged time and location.
Scoring Algorithm
- 100% Base: Every image starts as "True" until
physics proves otherwise.
- Shadow Deviation (-2 pts/deg): For every 1° the
shadow deviates from the expected solar angle (beyond a 5° margin), we subtract 2%.
- Critical Failure (-30 pts): Deviations >20° indicate
fundamental inconsistencies, incurring a major penalty.
- Solar Context (-50 pts): If the sun is
mathematically below the horizon but shadows are visible, the score is halved.
- Missing Metadata (-15 pts): Lack of GPS/EXIF data
reduces confidence in the source chain.
"A score below 50% indicates a high probability of manipulation or
incorrect metadata."
